Count Binface: The Galactic Warrior Running for UK Political Office
A populist conservative leader in the UK, Nigel Farage, started a special election in Clacton, a town in the UK, after scrutiny grew over his finances. Apparently, the Trump ally is calling this special election a “people versus the establishment” issue.
However, Farage will not only be facing “the establishment” in this election he will also be facing a political opponent dressed as a trash bin. What makes this even stranger is that this election is purely Farage versus the trash bin known as Count Binface. Other political parties said they would not have candidates in the election, describing Farage’s resignation as a distraction from the issue of his finances.
Count Binface, who appears to really be comedian Jon Harvey wearing a trash bin-esque spacesuit, has several policy proposals. Some of these proposals include nationalizing Adele, moving a badly positioned hand dryer in the restroom at the Crown & Treaty pub, and getting at least one affordable home in Clacton.
While on the face of it Binface may not seem to be a serious political contender, but a poll shows that 33% would prefer Count Binface to win the Clacton by-election, giving him a 12% lead over Farage (21%). 32% say they want neither candidate to win while 13% don’t know.
With Binface leading the election, some may be wondering what will happen if Binface really wins this election. Well, if Binface wins he could really become a minister in parliament, but he may not be able to wear his spacesuit in parliament.
Although Binface winning an election may be out of the ordinary, a joke candidate has won political office in the UK before. In particular, a sports team mascot known as H’Angus the Monkey was elected Mayor of Hartlepool for three terms. Of course who actually won the mayoral race was the person wearing the monkey costume, Stuart Drummond.
If Binface wins this election, hopefully he fulfills his campaign pledges like fixing a badly positioned hand dryer in a restroom.
